About us

K-POP star is an English-language fan site about Korean pop music. We write profiles of K-pop idols and groups, explain who is who in a line-up, and collect the facts fans look for: debut dates, positions, birthdays, agencies, songs and the stories behind them. The site is the English edition of K-POP star, which also publishes in Japanese.

We are fans writing for fans. K-POP star is independent and is not connected to any artist, entertainment company, broadcaster or official fan club.

What we do

Our articles cover:

  • member profiles, with names, birthdays, positions and the role each member plays in the group
  • girl groups and boy groups, from established names to new debuts
  • debut stories, comebacks, albums and the songs that made a group known
  • the agencies, labels, producers and choreographers behind the music
  • fun facts, nicknames and the hobbies idols talk about in interviews and on their own channels
  • background that helps new fans follow K-pop, such as how trainee systems, fandom names and music shows work

Our principles

These principles guide what we publish:

  • Accuracy. Names, dates and figures are checked against official sources before they go live: agency announcements, the artists’ own channels and established music charts and news outlets.
  • Respect for the artists. We write about the work and the public side of an idol’s career. We do not spread rumours, guess about private lives or publish personal details that the artist has not made public.
  • Facts before hype. Where a story is unconfirmed, we say so, or we leave it out.
  • Openness. We explain how our articles are made, including where artificial intelligence (AI) is used, and that the site is paid for by ads.
  • Updates. Line-ups change, members go on hiatus, groups disband and new ones debut. We review older profiles and correct anything that is no longer right.

The editorial team

The editor and writer responsible for K-POP star is Hannah Lowell. Hannah has followed K-pop for many years, from fan translations of variety shows to sold-out arena tours, and writes about music and pop culture for a general audience. Hannah is responsible for what is published, for checking the facts and for making sure every article follows the principles on this page.

How we use AI

We use AI tools, including Claude from Anthropic, to help with research, structure and first drafts. Nothing is published as the tool wrote it: the editor checks every name, date and claim against sources and rewrites the text before it goes live. Responsibility for the published content always lies with us. Read more in our AI policy.

How the site is funded

K-POP star is free to read. To cover the cost of running it, some pages show ads served by Google AdSense. Advertisers have no say in what we write, and no artist or company pays to be featured. How the ads use cookies is explained in our privacy policy and on our cookies page.
